Satta Matka - The Lotto Play Name That Was Used Earlier

Satta Matka is a type of lottery and gambling that in the past involved betting on both the opening and closing prices of cotton exchanged from the New York Cotton Exchange to the Bombay Cotton Exchange located in India. It originates during the pre-liberal age of Indian economy, prior to the age of the British Empire.

This form of trading developed in the year 1820, when traders, either individually or in small groups, started visiting the various cotton mills located in the Indian Thar Desert regions. Initially there were no written rules for this type of gambling. In fact there were no set laws at all regulating this type of business in the early days.

Gambling, especially betting on horse races, was a largely underground operation and individuals, especially those from lower and middle class Indian and European backgrounds, dealt with this business in a totally informal manner.

However, over time the Indian government realized the potential of this betting business and along with the globalization of information technology, came the rules and regulations for state data. These government rules and regulations helped reform the state data organization and made it regulated like any other legal business.

The main aim behind establishing such gambling was to provide people from low-income and tribal backgrounds with an opportunity to participate in gambling activities. In addition, these governments and organizations also wanted to encourage tourists to visit this state. The main reason behind the lottery organization was to generate revenue.

Initially the main objective of organizing Satta Matka was to introduce a progressive payment system, free entry into the lottery draw and encourage people to participate in the drawing of lotteries. Initially, the concept of Satta Matka was a failure and this led to several changes in the concept and outlook of this particular lottery.

The most significant change in the lottery system was the introduction of math in Satta Matka. Earlier, only nominal payment was given in lieu of the winning ticket; but later this amount was increased. This was done in view of increasing demands of the people from lower and middle class strata of Indian society.

Initially, the tickets that were won were awarded on the basis of the strength of the candidate. After the introduction of math in Satta Matka, each winning number was assigned with a mathematical value, which was pre-decided by lottery organizers. Since there was no fixed mathematical formula for deciding winning numbers, every person playing Satta Matka had to pick numbers according to their own choice.

The winning numbers could be chosen by the player himself or the option was provided for a random selection. The introduction of matkha meant that the Satta Matka was no longer a game that was played on a single day. The numbers combinations used to be decided at regular intervals. This made the game less interesting and more of a show.

This was why lottery organizers started changing the winning numbers in Satta Matka at regular intervals in the past few years. This enabled people to have a regular winning pattern and thereby played the game less often.

In the recent past however, this trend of changing the winning numbers has ceased. In continuation, as the demand for Satta Matka increased, the popularity of the game and the name'Satta Matka' too saw a steady rise in popularity. Many players began choosing it as a name and the numbers they picked for the winning patterns kept changing. Soon enough, players started calling their lottery games as 'Satta Matkha', 'Matal Samba' and 'Kusalam'.

Today, the game is much more than what it used to be. It is more like a sport. The winning numbers and pattern of winning play have been changed. But, the game itself is based on mathematics and no real skill is required. Instead, mathematical skills to help players to choose their own winning numbers and shapes of the matka numbers. Hence, the name 'Satta Matka' remains synonymous with lottery games
